Trauma Focused Therapist-Kety Lopez, LMHC

Licensed Psychotherapist & Founder

Thank you for choosing Psych Blossom! I'm honored with the trust so many clients place in me & our team to help them navigate challenging moments.

I wanna share some personal information that will help you understand my journey and how I ended up being a therapist. My parents divorced when I was 8, my mom has suffered from undiagnosed anxiety & dysthymia (low-grade depression) my whole life and I moved to the US when I was 13 years old. These three events motivated me to try to understand myself and heal the wounds they left. I refused to let these events define me and I felt passionate enough to make it my career.

I have a beautiful family that I cherish more than anything. My son is 4 years old and he is spoiled with love. Whenever I’m not playing with legos, cleaning play dough, or figuring out what to make for dinner, I’m seeing clients. I start my day with a long walk, my favorite part of the day. I end my day making up a unique story for my son before he goes to sleep. He wants me to read a book and tell him an adventure story I make up for him every night. The story is about two main characters, a boy named James & his friend, a monster truck called Jimmy Johns. This was my idea and I thought it was so cute at first. But, believe me! I now wonder why I did that to myself. It’s now a must every single night! I think you get the point, pretty normal stuff. This is the least exciting my life has ever been and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

I have over 20 years of experience, excellent training and I'm bilingual in English & Spanish. I’m passionate about helping clients who have suffered neglect as children. There’s a lot of suffering that comes as a result of complex trauma. Clients feel lost, not knowing how or where to start working through so many issues. There’s typically anxiety, depression, anger, low self-esteem, poor boundaries, feeling overwhelmed, a deep longing for, as well as, fear of connection, interpersonal conflict, etc.

There are two major fields of study that guide my work, trauma and attachment. As a trauma-informed therapist, I will help you understand the function of your symptoms and move away from pathologizing, diagnosing, etc. I firmly believe that if your circumstances were different, you wouldn’t have most of your symptoms. I also know, that once you heal those wounds, the symptoms will disappear or become very mild and sporadic.

As an attachment-oriented therapist, I approach individual and couples therapy knowing that we are biologically programmed for connection. I normalize our need for interdependence, to be seen, valued, appreciated, etc. We’re bonding animals, therefore, helping my clients reach fulfilling relationships with themselves and others is at the core of my work.

I’m constantly getting trained in scientifically proven interventions so I can provide the best and most effective service to all my clients. I want you to fall in love with therapy, to feel it’s one of the best decisions you’ve made because it has drastically changed your life. We only get one chance at this thing called life, so we need to use every tool at our disposal to make the best of it.

The quote above really captures a great deal of my approach to life and how I show up as a therapist. I believe we are programed to heal and for the most part, will instinctively seek to grow and to feel better. Yet, I know that it takes a lot of courage to face challenges head on and to stay committed to your growth. I have so much respect for people who make the choice to look at themselves in the eyes and say, I’m responsible for my healing and I will do the work it takes to live the life I deserve. These are the people you don’t forget.

At this stage in my career I love working with individuals on identity issues. Anyone who’s questioning who am I, what do I want, what do I do/feel about X,Y or Z. People who are curious about what happens when they let go of anxiety and depression. They wanna allow other parts of themselves flourish. They are ready to let go of the limitations placed on them by gender, sexual orientation, religion, poverty, etc. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of shame associated with trauma and it’s intricately related to identity. I feel like a kid in candy store when I get to help somebody work through it and fully accept themselves. It’s an extremely liberating and connecting and I’m honored to help my clients through it.
