Frequently Asked Questions

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on the expertise and level of experience of your clinician, type of service and length of session but it ranges anywhere from $150-300 per clinical hour (50 mins).

Do you take Insurance?

Yes, we’re currently in network with Aetna, United Healthcare, Oxford & Oscar Health.

I really wanna work with one of your therapists. What options do I have if you don’t accept my insurance?

If you wanna work if us but we don’t take your insurance, you have two options. You can 1. do it yourself or use 2. Mentaya to process your out of pocket reimbursement. See instructions below:

  1. Do it yourself: Please call your insurance and ask for your out-of-network benefits. They typically reimburse for 50-80% of our fee. Oftentimes, it ends up costing you similar to going in-network. When you decide to use your out of network benefits, you pay our practice for every session and we give you a statement at the end of every month. You then submit that statement to your insurance and they send you the reimbursement check.

  2. Use Mentaya: We can submit claims on your behalf through Mentaya. Mentaya is a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed. They charge a 5% fee per claim and have helped people get thousands of dollars back per year. You can sign up using this link. If you’re interested in taking advantage of this service, please let our intake coordinator know. Note: Mentaya's goal is to save you time and money. It's completely optional, and Psych Blossom does not benefit in any way from your participation.

What are the pro-cons of using insurance vs. paying out of pocket?

How much you pay out of pocket is not the only difference between using your insurance and paying for therapy out of pocket. Clinically speaking insurance companies have requirements that oftentimes is not what the client needs the most.

However, it could be a good option for clients with current symptoms who meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis, who don’t care about insurances asking for a copy of our notes and records and who are ok with a limited number of weekly sessions.

The only way we can truly guarantee the highest level of confidentiality is through private pay, since we don’t have to provide access to your information to anyone without your consent. If privacy is really important. Consider paying for therapy out of pocket. Private pay is also the only option for clients who don’t currently meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis and are mostly working on self-improvement and growth or who wanna come in more than once a week.

Are we a good match?

We believe finding a good therapist goes beyond experience and expertise. Therapy is a very personal process and finding someone you can relate to is essential for success. We have plenty of experience and expertise but we also wanna make you feel at ease, comfortable and safe to explore and process difficult topics.

Most of our clients come personally recommended by a friend, which makes things easier. It usually means we work well together.  However, if you found us some other way, we’ve put together a few questions to help you decide if we could be a good match.

  1. Are you between the ages of 20 and 50?

  2. Are you psychologically curious? Meaning, are you interested in understanding why you do & feel certain things?

  3. Do you believe that with the right help, you can and want to put in the work to see the changes you wanna see in your life?

  4. Do you find yourself succeeding in your career or business but struggling with relationships (romantic, family, friends)?

  5. Do you struggle with perfectionism, imposter syndrome, feeling like you belong, etc.?

  6. Are you often misperceived as aggressive, tough, unemotional, etc. ? When in reality, you’re a very fair & caring person.

  7. Do you struggle with commitment? To a person, a place, work, etc.?

  8. When you think of your parents, there’s no doubt they loved and cared for you. Yet, you feel disconnected to one or both of them.

  9. Do you struggle with repetitive patterns that frustrate you and make you feel like you’re sabotaging yourself? Like drinking, eating, shopping, sleeping around?

  10. Do you struggle with emotional and or sexual intimacy? Is it hard to express your emotions or to ask for what you want & need?

  11. Is it hard to believe all the positive things others say of you? Are praise and recognition uncomfortable? Is it difficult to enjoy your success and feel deserving of it?

  12. Is consistent self-care a struggle? Do you work insane hours? Neglect exercising or sleeping properly? Eat junk food because it’s the quickest thing before rushing back to work?

  13. Do you have a complicated relationship with money? Do you struggle spending money on yourself? Or do you blow through all your money and find yourself living paycheck to paycheck despite making good money.

  14. Do you find it difficult to trust and prefer to be self-reliant?

  15. Do you experience waves of anxiety and/or depression? Do you tend to hide & minimize how much it affects you?

This is a very short list but it does paint a picture of clients we’ve successfully helped. If you’ve answered yes to most of these questions, we’re probably gonna be an excellent match and successfully work together to help you get exactly where you want.
